Global health experience is an important part of the education of the next generation of physicians and medical leaders. The Global Child Health Program (GCHP) aims to create sustainable partnerships that prioritize worldwide improvement of childrens' health.
The GCHP offers pediatric residents the opportunity to participate in global health initiatives, as well as vibrant educational activities at Dartmouth College. GCHP collaborations with Dartmouth College include the Center for Health Equity, Dickey Center for International Understanding and The Dartmouth Institute.
The three-year GCHP curriculum features 12 core lectures with quarterly didactic sessions, and utilizes Simulation Use in Global Away Rotations (SUGAR), a "simulation-based curriculum used to prepare medical providers for common challenges (both practical and emotional) faced when working in resource-limited settings". The GCHP also offers mentored reading, individualized learning, a bi-directional exchange component and away clinical and research opportunities at one of our key partnership sites in Tanzania, Haiti or Rwanda.
DarDar Pediatric Program
The DarDar Pediatric Program (DPP) is a collaboration between the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth. DPP provides care to HIV-infected children in a comprehensive clinic, and through a pediatric resident exchange program, offers participating residents optional clinical rotations with a local resident in sickle cell and HIV clinics, oncology, malnutrition, diarrhea, neonatal and general pediatrics units.
GCHP residents meet bi-monthly with Global Health faculty for constant communication, collaboration and mentoring. PL-2 or PL-3 residents have the opportunity to participate in either a domestic or international clinical rotation. International clinical rotations are available through partner sites in Rwanda, Tanzania and Haiti.

Global Child Health Bi-Directional Exchange program
Through the Global Child Health Bi-Directional Exchange program, international physicians visit us to participate in learning sessions, inpatient and outpatient observation, and present a one-hour resident lecture attended by faculty, pediatric residents and Geisel School of Medicine students.
