  • Hiccups and gassiness are common in newborns, and symptoms may include fussiness, pulling legs up, or arching after feedings.
  • During breastfeeding, slowing down or pulling away from the breast may signal it’s time to pause and burp the baby.
  • When bottle feeding, paced feeding and frequent burping can help reduce swallowed air and discomfort.
  • Gentle tummy massages, bicycling the legs, and supervised tummy time may help relieve gas and support development.
  • Parents should contact their pediatric provider if symptoms worsen or include vomiting, inconsolable crying, or increased irritability.
