The Mom's Place at Catholic Medical Center in Manchester, NH is home to the Special Care Nursery staffed by our neonatologists and pediatricians.
Here, state-of-the-art monitoring systems and round-the-clock care are provided for infants born at 32 weeks or later who require specialized care.
Based on a Neonatal Couplet Care model developed in Sweden, the Special Care Nursery allows families to stay together in the same private, spacious suite with their baby from admission to discharge.
The program is designed to minimize separation between parents and baby, encourage bonding and attachment and give parents greater confidence in assuming their role as primary caregivers when it's time to go home.
Babies up to eight weeks premature
The Mom's Place stabilizes babies up to eight weeks premature in the birthing room, returns them to the mother within minutes of delivery, and attaches them to monitoring and respiratory equipment as needed.
Mothers and their babies are transferred to one of the Special Care Nursery's four family care rooms, where the mother receives her postpartum care while her baby receives specialized care.
An experienced team of neonatologists and pediatricians provides medical care and oversees sophisticated monitoring equipment and life-saving support systems.
Babies born before 32 weeks
If a baby is born before 32 weeks or requires additional attention based on a specific condition or illness, the Special Care Nursery includes a stabilization room with 24-hour ventilator support and preparation for transfer to a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit if needed.
Transferring babies
Babies who need to be transferred to a tertiary care center have the option of going to the Children's Hospital at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH, or to the hospital of their choice.
