  • Official recommendations advise against sunscreen use on infants under 6 months old, as babies should ideally be kept out of direct sunlight.
  • When sun exposure is unavoidable, protective clothing (long sleeves, pants, hats, sunglasses) is the best way to protect a baby's skin.
  • If sunscreen is needed on exposed skin areas, mineral-based sunscreens containing zinc oxide or titanium dioxide are recommended.
  • Mineral sunscreens are preferred for babies due to lower risk of irritation and better safety profiles.
  • Sunscreens with added fragrances or other irritants should be avoided for babies with sensitive skin.
