  • The best beverage for children is water, providing hydration without added calories or sugars.
  • Milk is beneficial as it provides essential nutrients such as calcium, vitamin D, protein, and fats important for growth and development.
  • For very young children (preschool age and younger), it is recommended to limit milk intake to no more than 24 ounces (about 700 ml) per day to avoid interfering with iron absorption.
  • Excess milk consumption may reduce iron absorption and contribute to iron deficiency anemia in young children.
  • Juice intake should be limited to a maximum of 8 ounces (about 240 ml) per day.
  • Modeling water drinking behavior by parents and caregivers can encourage children to drink more water.
