A message from the Pediatric, Adolescent, and Young Adult Gender Health team
Dartmouth Health remains deeply committed to the health, safety, and dignity of every patient.
We are dismayed by recent federal developments regarding potential restrictions on our ability to provide some gender-affirming care for children and adolescents, including the announcement of proposed CMS rules and legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives.
While these actions were anticipated, they create significant distress and uncertainty for the patients and families we serve. We are reviewing the proposed rules carefully to understand their implications, particularly for families who rely on Medicaid for access to comprehensive and compassionate care, while always remaining compliant with applicable rules along with state and federal laws.
Although these legal and regulatory constraints may limit the scope of care we can provide in the future, our commitment to this patient population remains unwavering, and Dartmouth Health Children’s clinical teams will continue to support our patients and families as they navigate increasingly complex healthcare decisions, consistent with our mission to help all children and adolescents lead their healthiest, happiest lives.

Important notes about mental health support
We provide health support, but we do not offer ongoing, long-term therapy. Our program requires that you connect with a therapist for mental health support. We can assist you in connecting with a mental health provider in your community.
We know it can be challenging to find therapists at this time. So we strongly recommend that you begin searching for a therapist before your child’s first appointment.
