Child Development

The Interdisciplinary Child Development Program (IDCP) observes, tests, and counsels families about the developmental and behavioral status of their child.

We support families and treat children with issues such as:

  • Autism spectrum disorders
  • Behavioral disorders
  • Chronic diseases
  • Developmental delays
  • Learning disabilities
  • Low birthweight
  • Neonatal complications
  • Prematurity
  • Spasticity

We perform detailed diagnostic evaluations by reviewing each child's early intervention/school reports, administering family questionnaires, and examining the child. Our comprehensive care plans, include medical, developmental, educational, and/or psychological evaluations. We provide specific suggestions on how to implement the care plan.

With the family/guardian's written permission, we communicate with the child's primary care provider (PCP) and school to assure the best communication and continuity of care. We provide the PCP receives with clear recommendations and continued support to strengthen the medical home for the family.

We collaborate closely with parents, professionals, and educators. We consult with a variety of other programs and departments at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH, and regionally. We provide a full array of community-based services in clinical settings as well as in collaboration with the schools and towns where children live.

In addition, we advise, coordinate and educate families, primary care providers, educators, and therapists about the diagnoses and management of children and youth within their community setting.
