  • The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends against using over-the-counter cold medicines for children under the age of four, as they are ineffective and their side effects can outweigh any potential benefits.
  • For children over one year old, honey is suggested as a safe remedy to help with symptoms, and can be given in a honey pop or with tea.
  • Humidity is beneficial for keeping nasal passages open and can be achieved by using a cool-mist humidifier in the child's room.
  • Supportive care and comfort measures are important, such as providing popsicles and allowing screen time while the child is sick.
  • Plenty of rest and lots of tender loving care (TLC) are highlighted as important aspects of helping a sick child recover.
