Pediatric Gastroenterology

The Pediatric Gastroenterology Department provides a full range of services for patients with gastrointestinal diseases and nutritional problems. Gastroenterology is the study of the esophagus, stomach, intestines, colon, kidneys, liver, gallbladder, and pancreas.

We examine children with abdominal pain, and diagnose and treat all disorders of the digestive system, including:

  • Abdominal pain and vomiting
  • Celiac disease
  • Constipation
  • Cystic fibrosis
  • Failure to thrive and feeding problems
  • Heartburn
  • Hepatitis
  • Hirschsprung's disease
  • Home intravenous nutrition dependence
  • Inflammatory bowel disease (ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease)
  • Irritable bowel syndrome
  • Jaundice
  • Lactose intolerance
  • Liver disease
  • Neuromuscular disorders
  • Peptic ulcers

Some of the tests we perform include:

  • Colonoscopy
  • Endoscopy
  • Hydrogen breath testing
  • Liver biopsy
  • Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy tube placement
  • pH probe study
  • Sweat testing

We work closely with with the Pediatric Lipid and Weight Management Program, which is designed for children referred by their primary care providers who would like to improve their overall health.
