Erik Shessler stands with award

It’s a great honor to be recognized by this organization, whose mission to prioritize the health and wellbeing of children is aligned with my own.

Erik M. Shessler, MD

Erik M. Shessler, MD, Dartmouth Health Children’s primary care community chair, was named Pediatrician of the Year by the New Hampshire chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (NHAAP). Shessler is the immediate past president of NHAAP.

“It’s a great honor to be recognized by this organization, whose mission to prioritize the health and wellbeing of children is aligned with my own,” said Shessler. “My thanks to my colleagues who nominated me for this award, and to NHAAP for their continued advocacy for Granite State kids and the pediatric clinicians who care for them.”

Shessler is also associate medical director for Dartmouth Hitchcock Clinics Manchester and medical director for the New Hampshire Pediatric Improvement Partnership (NHPIP), where he contributes to quality improvement projects around development screening, behavioral/mental health, and emerging child health issues. In addition to these pediatric primary care leadership roles, Shessler is also the general pediatric consultant for Hampstead Hospital, New Hampshire’s only acute psychiatric facility for children and adolescents, which joined Dartmouth Health earlier this year.

“Dr. Shessler is a true leader in pediatrics in New Hampshire. His advocacy and expertise are exceptional, but most importantly, he is a compassionate, friendly and empathetic physician who has earned the trust of his colleagues, patients and their families,” said Keith J. Loud, MD, MSc, Dartmouth Health Children’s physician-in-chief. “I’m particularly proud, as we both graduated McGill University Medical School and the pediatric residency at Dartmouth Health Children’s, that he has been chosen as the state’s Pediatrician of the Year by NHAAP. He is deeply deserving of this honor, and is an outstanding representative for all of us.”
