21st Annual CHaD HERO Raises More than $1 Million for Dartmouth Health Children’s

2026 CHaD HERO

As we build a new era for child health across our region, our heroes are more important than ever.

Keith J. Loud, MD, Physician in Chief of Dartmouth Health Children’s

For the second consecutive year, the CHaD HERO raised more than $1 million when more than 3,700 runners, walkers, volunteers, sponsors, and donors filled the Dartmouth Green in Hanover, New Hampshire, on Sunday, October 18.

Now in its 21st year, this community-powered event benefiting Dartmouth Health Children’s has raised more than $12.6 million to support the children and families of northern New England, and to help ensure that every child in this region has access to expert, compassionate care, and benefits from the latest discoveries in child health research. And no family is ever turned away for inability to pay.

This year’s HERO carried an added element of celebration. In addition to raising $1 million for the second year in a row, the event was an opportunity for the community to celebrate the recent $30 million transformative investment to Dartmouth Health Children’s from entrepreneur and visionary child health leader Tom Golisano. This gift will fund new, state-of-the-art neonatal and critical care facilities for the region’s youngest and sickest patients, with Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center (CHaD) becoming Golisano Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth Health in recognition of Golisano’s extraordinary generosity.

“As we build a new era for child health across our region, our heroes are more important than ever,” said Keith J. Loud, MD, Physician in Chief of Dartmouth Health Children’s. "The HERO is our flagship community program—and that will never change. But we, and the HERO, are entering a new era—and, starting in 2027, with a slightly revised name! And just like it has done today and for the past two decades, it will bring critical funds that help us do what we do best: deliver the best care, where it matters most: close to home.”
