Pediatric Nephrology Treatments and Services

We offer a full range of inpatient and outpatient nephrology (kidney) services, including:

  • Assessment and management of fluid and electrolyte and acid-base disorders in children
  • Assessment and management of pediatric hypertension
  • Counseling and services for hereditary diseases involving the kidney
  • Counseling and services for percutaneous renal biopsies, acute and chronic kidney disease, dialysis, and transplantation in children
  • Dialysis, acute and chronic
  • Dietary and nutritional counseling
  • Evaluation and treatment for hematuria (blood in the urine) and proteinuria (protein in the urine) in children
  • Evaluation and prevention of pediatric kidney stones
  • Medication including infusions in a pediatric infusion suite
  • Renal transplantation
  • Vascular access and peritoneal catheter access

We work closely with our pediatric urologists, particularly in fetal diagnosis and in medical care of patients with complex urologic problems and congenital malformations of the urinary tract.

Tests

We perform a variety of tests, including:

  • Computerized tomography (CT) scans
  • Laboratory tests of urea, creatinine, electrolytes, as well as other metabolic, hematologic, and immunologic testing; urinalysis including microscopy
  • Nuclear scans for blood flow and kidney function
  • Renal angiography
  • Renal ultrasound (with Doppler when indicated)
  • Ultrasound-guided renal biopsy
  • Voiding cystourethrograms (VCUG)
