- Even with good prevention, colds and flu are unavoidable, so managing symptoms is key.
- Hydration is critical. Dehydration worsens fatigue and body aches.
- Nutrition matters. Eating something, even if small, provides energy for the body to fight infection.
- Humidifiers (cool or warm mist) can help but must be cleaned properly to avoid spreading germs.
- Pain relievers (Tylenol, ibuprofen) can ease fever and aches but won’t directly improve cough or congestion.
- Stay home while sick, especially with fever. Schools require students to be fever-free for 24 hours before returning.
- Cough/cold medicines may work for some but often do little; they are not recommended for children under 4.
